Case Studies

Background

Cameron Offshore Systems approached Terry Goldspink of Paramount Global Services Ltd to manuacture and store up to eighty-four units of hydraulic flying leads in timber cases for the oil industry. Each unit could weigh up to five tonnes and measure up to 3600 x 3600 x 2000. The cases needed to be able to be stored two high in the firm’s warehouse. As these cases were due for export, they needed to conform to ISPM15.

Unable to manufacture the cases themselves they approached Barnes & Woodhouse for advice on how to proceed.

Client Proposal

Following an onsite meeting the next day Barnes & Woodhouse were asked to provide a quote for manufacturing and packing the cases at Paramount Globals site. The quote needed to be accompanied by detailed drawings and plans showing the structure and loading for these cases. They were also told that they had a tight time schedule as all fourty two units needed to be collected and shipped within a 30-day period.

Client Solution

Barnes & Woodhouse immediately instructed their designers to fit the design to the client’s needs and well as make the drawings user friendly so that both Cameron Offshore Systems and Paramount Global Services Ltd had a full understanding of what was being manufactured. These designs were talked through and accepted by both clients without revision and the manufacture began.

Due to the time constraints, Barnes & Woodhouse immeidately sourced the fifty cubic meters of heat-treated timbers and began work on the cases. Once the timber arrived, the first job was to manufacture the bases, so that the units arriving on articulated vechicles could be swiftly offloaded onto them and then they could be easily moved around the warehouse. The rest of the case was then assembled around the flying leads and the units battened in position to eliminate movement when in transit. The sides and lids of the cases needed particular attention to enable another five tonnes of goods to be stored on top of them. Due to the time constriants Barnes & Woodhouse had teams working seven days a week and near the finish throughout the night to meet the tight shipping deadlines. The cases were manufactured on time and exported successfully without any product damage by Paramount Global Services Ltd as requested.
